Privacy Policy

LAST UPDATED · MAY 2026

This is the privacy policy for Hazard Intelligence (the "Service"), an iOS application built and operated by Data Squid Labs (the "Company," "we," "us," or "our"). It explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We've tried to write it in plain English, not corporate boilerplate.

1. WHAT WE COLLECT

Hazard Intelligence collects only what's needed for the Service to function:

We do not collect: your name (unless you enter it), your email, your contacts list (only contacts you explicitly select), your photos, your microphone input, or any biometric data.

2. WHERE YOUR DATA LIVES

Emergency contact information is stored locally on your device using Apple's Core Data framework. It never leaves your phone unless you explicitly trigger an SOS, in which case the relevant fields are sent via SMS to the contacts you've designated.

Your location is sent to our hazard analysis service (hosted on Railway) to fetch real-time risk data for your area. These coordinates are not retained on our servers beyond the request lifecycle.

3. WHAT WE DON'T DO

4. THIRD-PARTY DATA SOURCES

Hazard Intelligence aggregates real-time hazard data from public APIs, including:

These services receive only geographic coordinates — never your name, contacts, device identifiers, or any personally identifying information.

5. SMS DELIVERY

When you trigger SOS, the Service sends an SMS message to the emergency contacts you've designated. This is handled through your device's native messaging system. Standard carrier rates may apply. Message contents include your live GPS location, current risk conditions for your area, and a timestamp.

6. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

Hazard Intelligence is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and you believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

7. YOUR RIGHTS

You can delete all of your data at any time by uninstalling the application. You can revoke any granted permission (location, notifications, contacts, motion) from your iPhone's Settings app at any time.

If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or California, you may have additional rights under GDPR or CCPA, including the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you. Because we don't store identifiable data on our servers, most of these rights are satisfied automatically by uninstalling the app.

8. SECURITY

All network communication between the application and our servers uses HTTPS with TLS 1.2 or higher. Local data on your device is protected by iOS's built-in encryption (file protection class enabled by default).

9. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated through the app and/or this page.
